Week 4 Term 4. Water and Coastal Colours.
However do you capture water in a sketch! It’s a moving unresolved watery thing!
Well we have some answers!
Many of our sketchers this week were looking at the colours of water in one way or another.
When you really truly take the time to gaze into it and try to see the colours, it’s a lot more than just ‘Blue’.
We keep it as simple as we can and use at least three colours, one over the other, and see what it does.
Some classes were stretched out by a lagoon. From here they could observe foreground, middle distance and background.
Using grass or foliage they created compositions leading your eye to the focus - water.
Others were discovering flat perspective on a Californian/Mission style house we love for this exercise.
The shapes are very distinctive and using layers of watercolour (colour dropping) brings character to it all. Palm trees are very much part of this tropical style too.
We love the results and it looked like fun.
