Becoming an Erin Hill Sketch Tutor
Erin Hill Sketching is an internationally recognized method of teaching sketching that emphasizes simplicity, speed, and a focus on capturing the essence of a scene rather than perfect detail.
Developed by Erin Hill, a travel sketcher, an Urban Sketcher and sketch tutor based in Australia, this approach is accessible to both beginners and experienced sketchers.
Key features of Erin Hill Sketching include:
1. Relaxed Style: The method encourages a fun, stress-free approach to sketching, focusing on enjoying the process rather than striving for perfection.
2. Bold Colors: A signature aspect of Erin Hill’s style is the use of vibrant and expressive colors to bring sketches to life.
3. No Erasers: Sketching with confidence is a cornerstone of this method. Erasers are avoided to help sketchers embrace imperfections and learn to work with them. Imperfection is perfect.
4. Simplification: Complex scenes are broken down into simple shapes and lines, making it easier to capture a subject quickly. loosely and effectively.
5. Travel Sketching: The method is popular among travelers, as it promotes creating quick sketches on the go that convey the atmosphere of a place.
Erin Hill Sketching has inspired sketching communities worldwide, with tours, workshops and classes available in several international locations.
It has become a go-to method for tutors wanting to show their students how to develop their artistic confidence and sketching skills in a joyful, approachable way.
I have decided to quietly expand tutoring opportunities, where appropriate, to those who feel they would like to become an Erin Hill Sketching Tutor.
Wherever you are in the world, you are welcome to get in touch and let’s talk it through.
If together we feel there’s potential for you to teach I can set up a simple training plan working together to create your own Erin Hill Sketching School at your own location.
It’s a ‘stand alone’ system and cannot be blended with other teaching methods, although if you have an established school, it can certainly be an add on.
Training needs to place with me either in France, USA, UK or Australia.
It’s not a franchise, more an opportunity to teach sketching within a simple licensing framework.
It is a ‘Stand alone’ system so not able to be blended with something you may already do, however it can be added to the art courses you may already offer as a separate subject. ie. ‘Erin Hill Sketching Florida’.
Your licence gives you the region where you are based, and you own that region.
To get an idea of what it feels like, take a look at Erin Hill Sketching NZ, run by a very successful tutor/owner who has been teaching weekly classes, workshops and tours since 2016.
Your rewards - social and financial - will come depending on how much time and enthusiasm you put into your sketching business.
No promises, you won’t think you’ve won lotto, but for sheer personal satisfaction, teaching sketching with the help of a simple platform is one the most satisfying professions on the planet.
Training takes place in person when I’m in Australia (in early January each year) ,
or in France or the USA on my yearly travels (May to September)
You need to come to where I am for around 8 - 10 days daily training going through our 6 - 8 week Introduction to Sketching course.
Then learn how to develop the Next Steps Sketching program for the students who will want to continue with you.
There are costs for the training program for becoming a licensed tutor, and for my support thereafter.
It’s an amazing and worthwhile investment in having your own business - and enjoyment is your reward.
All that side of things will be part of our discussions once we all agree that you are a great person to join the Erin Hill Sketching family.
Do get in touch if you’d like to know more.
