Week 2 Term 3. Architecture. Shapes and shadows
Another glorious week for our travel sketching students. We certainly don't need umbrellas. More likely sunscreen!
Intro sketchers were discovering the shapes in their flowers and fruit still life, and seeing how they interconnect. Early days but the sketches are certainly happening.
Each week we're looking at tips and techniques to bring the best out in your sketching whatever the subject. Travel Sketching students were looking at what tricks could be applied to architecture. To keep to a simple impression, decide how much goes in and avoid fiddly detail. To get the roundness or the squareness of a house means seeing where shapes line up against your main focus. Fine lines, bold lines, keep your whites, block in your darks and framing the main object. Success.
