Sketching Tours Beyond the Ordinary

Sketching with Purpose: Why Erin Hill Sketch Tours Are Different from others.

Let’s Talk about the Appeal of our Tours

• When we teach, we start at the beginning. Erin Hill Sketch Tours are a great way to discover this.
You’ll soon discover that we are sketching entirely for ourselves - no approval required by anybody else. This is just for you. We’re not selling our work but rather taking all pressure away from needing others to like what we sketch. It’s what you think that’s important . Only you.

• Our tours are more than just visiting locations for a short time and dashing to the next - but about taking time to truly experience and capturing the essence of where we are through what we put on our page.

Personalization

• Each tour is carefully planned to give you the best relaxed and rewarding experience we can. We always tailor to the group’s skill levels, interests, and pace.

• Small groups - from just 4 students - ensures one-on-one attention and a friendly, supportive atmosphere.

• Itineraries are flexible and designed to accommodate the creative flow rather than adhering to a rigid schedule.

Taking Time to Understand Our Location

• The difference between Erin Hill Sketch Tours and typical sightseeing tours is that we are not ‘ticking the box’ to see how many fabulous locations in busy cities we can see in a day.

• We much prefer to stay in one place and get to know where we are and how to find the places we want in the neighbourhood without stress. That way we discover unexpected gems which we can’t wait to sketch.

• By slowing down and taking away the ‘clock watching’ side of things, it enriches the creative process and helps capture the true essence of a place.

Our Thoughtful Teaching Approach

• Erin Hill Sketchings unique teaching philosophy -that nothing matters - it’s only an impression- begins to take away the pressure of having to turn out a masterpiece each time. You can sketch happily in whatever time we have and never feel ‘it’s not good enough’.
Nor are we teaching you to sketch like the tutor - not at all. But we are guiding you through our foundation steps to sketch in your own style.
Keeping positive is an important part of our sketching philosophy. Being kind to ourselves is another way of putting it. After all - it’s just lines on paper.

• Our aim is to have all our students learning and sketching in their own style - yes you have a style already - and share with others how differently we all put our lines on paper. Same applies for everyone from beginners to more experienced. We learn so much from others around us.

• I always find it fascinating when we all sketch the same subject and how each one sees it entirely differently. Yet each sketch is exactly what we want on the page. I have a view that we can’t make a mistake with our particular sketching techniques. You can always redraw over things and it simply adds to the personality of the work. No point starting over again. Nothing matters.

Tutors Who Feel Like Family

• All our Erin Hill Sketch Tutors stand out for their warm, and thoughtful approach to their students

• We try to build a connection to each participant as we learn a little about what they’d like to achieve. This helps give a feeling our tour feels more like traveling with family than attending a formal class.

• At times a student may be interested in exploring something they’re particularly interested in. Our tutors take the time to understand each student’s needs, while guiding to achieve that and offering encouragement and support along the way.

Slowing Down and Really Seeing

• Slowing down in today’s fast-paced world is something that sketching tends to help us do. When we’re beginning a sketch and doing our thumbnails to plan where all the shapes go - we tend not to notice the rest of the world going by. Who knows what’s going on! Doesn’t matter to us at all - sketchers at work.

• Sketching offers not just a way to document travel but a means of truly experiencing it. You learn so much about what you’re looking at because in order to get it on paper, you need to really look at it first.

Take a Look at Places We Go

• This is new for most people. Often they’d never known they could actually travel and add sketching too. It’s such a enjoyable approach to travel and going home with a journal full of your own impressions.

• Join us on an Erin Hill Sketch Tour and discover the joy of truly seeing the world through art.
