Sketching in a time of Lockdowns & Rain
Wow. We didn’t see this one coming.
Lockdown in Sydney and Queensland and restrictions everywhere else. Mmmm.
Masks, distancing, and all the sensible things we’re learning to do almost automatically.
Classes therefore had to be put on hold, but never fear, one did go ahead and another in Zoom.
Once again, when sketching together with our groups, you really feel how vital it is to connect with each other in real time. The laughing, the chatter, the fun.
The world doesn’t seem so bad just for a few hours.
We’ve been lucky overall compared to UK and USA , France Italy Spain, Portugal and many others. It’s Zoom, online or nothing.
Our Bangalow class took place in the Kingscliff studio and we were very happy. Rain bucketing but we had coffee and Sante biscuits, ( check the old Edmonds CookBook for this one - yummmm)
and a gorgeous fruit bowl to sketch.
Urban Sketchers Gold Coast managed to go ahead within hours of lockdown being lifted, at Gold Coast Heritage Museum. They kindly opened just for us and how wonderful it was.
They have a massive collection of buildings and memorabilia all just waiting to be sketched. So there we were, rain on a tin roof, deciding between this building or that, a cart or a barrel. We were very satisfied indeed.
The d’Arcy Doyle Australian painting Exhibition was on it’s last weekend in the old Memorial Hall nearby so this was a great chance for sketchers to check it out and admire the amazing creative talent we have all around us. It rained of course.
But we are sketchers. Nothing stops us.
Let’s take a look.
