Magic Forest where the platypus lives. Bangalow.

Travel Sketching this week has found us in some gorgeous locations with our sketchbooks and pens.
We really are so very lucky to have such places at our back door, and to be there taking it all in.

I introduced a new Workshop this week in Surfers Paradise at a secret spot - or so it seems - at Budds beach. One of our students was visiting another of our students up that way and suggested we do a Workshop there and see what we think.
Wow. We started at Bumbles Cafe where the very vibrant owner, Kate Maddison was so exited by our sketches.
I’m thinking the cafe would be a lovely starting point for workshops. So quirky and so many rooms to find your way through and golly so perfect for object sketching while we coffee away happily.
Almost as packed with collectables as Margaret Olley’s rooms which we did later that week.

Talk about magical. Down by the creek in Bangalow was so absolutely stunning, with filtered light streaming across the slow moving water. The reflections were so lovely and just what we had hoped for. Challenging but that’s a good thing. The platypus family live just downstream if you know where to look.

Tweed regional Gallery was another place we sketched this week. Firstly a view looking over the rolling valleys and fields to the lavender coloured craggy ranges of the caldera beyond. The highest of all is Mt Warning, which looks like a face in profile, and so much spiritual meaning for the original inhabitants of this country.

We’ve covered so much this week in so many subjects and places. That’s real travel sketching and we’re so lucky that we are free to go on location and sketch together once again.
