Faces, Greenery, Art Deco and Life Sketching

Sketching from Life. Tanglewood Studio

Sketching from Life. Tanglewood Studio

Loads of variety in our sketch subjects this week.

We had hands and faces without features in one Workshop. It’s mainly the gestural angles of the head, shoulders etc which give the portrait character. Others studied face proportions.

Art Deco architecture and detailing is on our agenda now. A new Workshop is looking at these beautiful designs in a town which very much values its past.
Interior perspective is another way to study what goes up and what goes down.

Those pesky greens were back for our ‘What is Green’ Workshop. When we take the time to look into the trees around us you’ll begin to see all the colours which define the kind of tree it is.

Back to the studio world of painters, oil paint, charcoal, easels and a seated model. And golly she sat for more than 5 mins - 3 hours in fact. Time is not of the essence here and it took me back to my Julian Ashton days. Although I’m now a sketcher I can enjoy equally the pleasure of just being in moment, surrounded by chat about galleries and paint colours. I’ll be doing this again.

Let’s take a look.
