Thank goodness the expected storm didn’t happen.
We seem to be pretty lucky with our French Sketch Workshops. Gaye and her two student sisters had blue skies and could be outdoors, which is the perfect place to be sketching.
Christophe served coffee and croissants for a yummy start. The flower still life was a shape and colour exercise deconstucting shapes to simplify what appears to be quite complex.
’Cup Apple Banana’ is a surprise one for students when seeing 3 colours come alive.
Then outdoors for tree sketching. Sun and blue skies. Exactly what we want.
A beautiful French lunch and crisp wine was served between sketching. What a fun day and really lovely results.

French Sketch Picnic Workshop

Oh how lucky we were.
Sunday Morning, blue skies, not too hot and just a little breeze.
We set up under my favourite big shade tree and with our students yet not truly sure they could ever learn to sketch - Maurice served coffee and croissants. Ahh. What a wonderful way to start.

So that was our first sketch. Nobody had a chance to hesitate and lines began flying. Then colour applied in layers. Looking great. Now we could eat. A great reward.

Our hibiscus sketch was next. Pens were poised and we began our first shape - choose one flower to start. Once all flowers leaves and the vase were added we launched into watercolour.
Wow don’t they come to life now.

Just completed as Maurice arrived with baguettes and wine. A perfect moment for a break and relax. Energy was soon restored and we could sketch the nearby Pandanus trees.

By now everyone was feeling pretty good and actually decided they liked the black and white style for this one with maybe a pop of colour added later.
Fab work everyone. I loved being with you and seeing you become Travel Sketchers.

If you like the idea of a day learning to sketch and enjoying food and wine - do get in touch and we’ll arrange a date. Bon appetite.
