The last of that Pear-Shaped Year

Clouds ove Mt Warning, South Murwillumbah

It’s been a really good week for sketching.
Midweek we were at The Tweed Regional Gallery as a last class for the Wednesday group.
A little cloudy but the magnificent view from the cafe was all laid out before us. Coffee? Don’t mind if I do.

Something new. A jumbo Magic pencil. Has the 4 primary colours in one lead. Clever.
Let’s do the landscape using it. Quite funny trying to get the colour you wanted but really looks good with any of them. Great results. Almost pastel looking.

View from the secret garden down below. All looked promising till a huge downpour came out of the skies. One dedicated student did a great job. Carried on regardless. For us back in the cafe it was a whiteout.

Margaret Olley was not a tidy housekeeper. Not her thing. The house is a moveable feast of collected bits and pieces stacked floor to ceiling in every room ready for her to paint at any moment. Fun to sketch. The messier the better. We really enjoyed the challenge.

Funnily, The Tweed Urban Sketchers group was also here. But on Saturday. perfect blue sky day. Very different but just as beautiful. Everyone loved the outdoor vistas, almost French looking with it’s undulating pastures and rich greens.

Again it’s our last Christmas sketch for the group till February.
