Sand, Sea and Sculptures

Classes this week in Australia were on the beach. That’s right. It’s Spring going into summer here so as we live virtually on it at the northern end of NSW, we love sketching everything about it.

Earlier in the week our Gold Coast sketchers met to sketch the Swell annual beach sculptures which are set up along the beach and foreshore at Currumbin Beach. That’s the main one, though they tell me there are others nearby.

What a gorgeous time we had. It’s quite a new thing for sketchers to look at the displays with an eye to getting it into a sketch book. Shapes are odd but fascinating so it’s not important to be precise. We all felt pretty good at the end of the day with a book full of memories and sketches.

Thursday was definitely beach sketching too. Sea shells as our warm up over coffee and catchup. Then the beautiful curve of Kingscliff beach as it stretches along towards Queensland. Surfers are always out there - white pointers or not - and that means tiny figures on our rolling waves. Of course where would we be without a Pandanus framing it all. Aaaah Life is good.

Enjoy our sketches from this week.
