Sketch Your Cake is back

The day I happened upon the High Tea Room at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe in the tiny historic town of Tyalgum, I knew we would be bringing back ‘Sketch Your Cake’. These were a big hit in Sydney a while back and when I travelled, we put them on the shelf. But as you’d know, we are not traveling right now, so what better than to bring pleasure to people with an event like this.

What an utterly delightful village this is. Lush paddocks with cows knee deep in green green grass. Clear air, birdsong and flowering trees and shrubs bursting into bloom across the landscape.

One main street with a lovely old pub on the corner, a row of restored cottages which include the General Store, the Smoked BBQ outdoor cafe, and all the tiny boutiques and of course Flutterbies High Tea Room with the Gin Shack next door all connecting through alleyways and corners. Not to mention the very historic Tyalgum Community Hall where many concerts bring people together. You seriously do lose yourself in another world here.

Today was the day we were having our first Sketch Your Cake in Northern NSW, with 6 students keen to try their hand at sketching what would be presented. Oh what a display indeed. Every morsel a sketch!

We started with a Champagne Rose Bliss decorated with candy floss and gold edible dust. Oh my. What a beginning. Of course we must get our sketch on our page before we can imbibe - and everyone’s pens flew. Aah now we can slowly sip this magic and take ourselves into the world of sketching where nothing from the outside can touch you.

The cakes and savouries were utter delights of colour and taste.. Tiny mouthfuls of and decorative fruits and savouries which of course had to be sketched before consuming. Everyone soon had pens and colour on their pages and happily tried every little morsel, now recorded as a forever memory in their sketch books.

I’m so keen for you to see what was produced, and this from people who’d never sketched this way before.

Dates for the next Sketch Your Cake event will be on he website soon.
