Wild Flowers, Herbs, Roses and Old Wares in The Minervois
Mostly we’re here in our village of Trausse Minervois a little later than this, so seeing Spring bursting forth is a real bonus.
Mornings and evenings are still chilly but the blue sky days are glorious without the high heat of Summer - coming in June and July.
Our walks are full of surprises for us as we see big varieties of roadside flowers and herbs, walk on Thyme underfoot - and the air is filled with the aroma.
We’re seeing plants flowers and trees we don’t always know growing wild. We do know Sage, Mint, Thyme, Blackberry, Rosemary, Poppies but there’ll prolly be many more. Trees of Cherry, Plums, Figs, Olives, Apples, Pears, and again many more fill the landscape between vineyards.
Roses roses everywhere. They go berserk in Winter when most people are inside and it’s too cold to be out pottering in the garden. They climb and spill over walls and doorways and we have benefitted hugely as various ones are pruned back. Big aromatic full blooms - cant live with out a big jug of these anymore.
We’ve been out looking for some bits and pieces we need for the house. The Old Wares shops, Brocantes, Antique places are a mind blast. Suddenly you want everything!
But there’s no hurry, we know what we’re looking for so we’re happy to keep looking.
I did see two sweet little old jugs which I wanted for the Studio as props.€2 for one which turns out to be Limoge, and €3 for the other. I was very happy.
Stopped off in Caunes on the way home for an afternoon Cafe Creme. Such a great place to sit and observe.
More adventures in South of France soon.
