Another week's sketching fun

Sketching plain air, your own choice of ‘something in the garden’

Wednesday February 8th and Friday February 10th.
Glorious weather again for Week 2. Remember last week!!! Whoa the humidity was pretty hard going. But you know what we sketchers are like - bring it on - sketching is more important than a bit of discomfort!!

We were looking at a garden bits and pieces still life to start our day - well after coffee of course.
This one pushed you a little to really observe the shapes and how the pieces all fit together from where you are sitting.

Starting with a small thumbnail helps hugely. To work out if your sketch will be taller or wider and where you want it on your page - that’s a great start. Not that it always follows your plan, but you’re ahead of the game having done some deep thinking before you toss a few lines on your page.
First time with watercolours. Everything is laid out in your pallette and we begin our one colour over another technique.

Before long we’re breathing again and we have very nice colour on our sketch. All looking great. Let’s stretch our legs and get ready for the next item on the agenda.
This is where you go stand or sit in the garden and find a small scene which appeals. I love this part as we are now plein air and not in the comfort of a studio or cafe. That’s real sketching and the results were stunning.

So different from each other, so individual and such personality in each. Some wrote a few notes to themselves around the sketch. We had some great laughs as usual. If this isn’t the best way to spend a morning, the I can’t think what is!

Oh by the way, love the zip pouch one of our Friday students ordered off my Red Bubble site. It’s the bigger size of the 3 on offer, and takes your whole sketch kit including the A5 sketchbook. That’s the 3 lifesavers design. Looks so nice.

Take a look and enjoy our hard work. A reminder that some of our sketchers have never done this before. Pretty impressive I think.
