The Progress of New Sketchers

Sketch Natick Workshop. Mass. USA.

Sunday June 12th 2022.

A new group of sketchers started their first ever sketching journey here in Natick New England USA.

Our subject would be the famous old Casey’s Diner.

There was a perfect grassy spot opposite and room for everyone to see the diner and to watch my step by step demos.
It was an old tramcar in 1922, with wheels which meant it could move to other places. Now it sits permanently between apartment buildings in a nice little spot and still with some greenery between itself and the train line at the back.

We all did a thumbnail planning sketch, followed by the main sketch and finally - watercolor.
So much easier using one colour at a time even if your colours are not exactly the same as mine. It always works by adding another color on top.
Last Workshop before I leave for France is Saturday June 18th. However did these weeks fly so fast!!

Mosman Intro to Sketching. Sydney Australia

Saturday June 11th 2022.

Week 2 in our 6 week course is about looking for lights and darks to get contrast in our sketches. We do that by keeping light on top and sides of our object and darker down the centre with a little sitting down line beneath.
