Heritage Facades and Fancy Cakes

What great sketch subjects we’ve had this week.
In Bangalow we started with a warm up looking at an eye level interior down the room at ButcherBaker Cafe. Not easy but everyone managed to see what goes up and what comes down. I do push people out of their comfort zone at times. But wow what results.

Out on the street so many great choices of heritage/federation style buildings to choose from.
Flat perspective is what we call this. Simple shapes with all the railings, balconies, and decorative detail you could wish for. Everyone really enjoyed these.

Then our bi-annual Sketch Your Cake High Tea at the utterly gorgeous little village of Tyalgum. The drive through this magnificent dairy and sugar country is something out of travel brochures. It really is.
Flutterbies is our destination. That complete surprise in the middle of nowhere. A one street village with restored old buildings, now a maze of shopping and eating venues flowing one to the other.

Our own High tea room almost a little girl’s dream and still is for us grown up ladies.

Each table is set for two, and just enough room between bowls of luscious flowers, gold rimmed glass and highly decorative bits and pieces to spread our sketch kit.
We begin with Champagne Rose Bliss and our first sketch.
Then the main feature arrives. 3 levels of tasty savouries and cakes - get sketching everyone! Now you can nibble.
Teas and coffees in the prettiest of tea cups and saucers. Roses, pansies, bluebells tracing all over the them.

Then it’s time to see all our work together. Everyone is delighted with their sketches and the fun we’ve had.

Let’s take a look.
