Sketching Colour

Colour was on our minds this week.
Often I hear people say ‘I don’t know how to get more variety into my colour.’
So we decided to do colour swatches using only the 12 colours we have, and see how each looks with some of the others over them.
Sooo interesting. Who’d have thought to put Hookers Green over Cad Red - gorgeous.
What about Cerulean over Permanent Rose. Wow.
So many surprises when you do this exercise and you the have reference to go back to.

Our follow up for this class was to do a sketch of anything you could see around you, pick one line of swatches and use only that colour combination. Really makes you think.
The idea is that provided you use light and dark as you usually do, it actually doesn’t matter if you do purple pot plants and orange people.
A great one to push you out of your safety zone and learn not to constantly attempt to match what you see in front of you. Fun.
