Melbourne Sketchfest. With Alissa Erin and Jeanette. November '19
East Melbourne elegance
Sunday November 10th was our afternoon Sketch&Walk with Alissa. We met at our own little private room to get started. Then it was out into a grey afternoon - rain held off - to stop at 3 locations around the beautiful suburb of East Melbourne. We were given 15 minutes to choose a subject that appealed and get it into our sketchbooks. We happened to pop into a very welcoming corner cafe for a well earned coffee and back to our little room to end the day. Last sketch was ‘Sketch your shoe’. So fun. Everyone managed that extremely well. A nice catchup drink for Alissa and I at the Pullman Hotel ended a very rewarding day.
The next 2 days were back in the city around Little Collins St. We like to start with a great coffee which happened to come from a cafe right next door to our hotel. Upstairs we had tables together to allow for all 13 of us. Everyone was ready and excited. Most are from parts of Melbourne, but one sketcher flew from far north Queensland to be with us. Very impressed!
Over the time we covered observation and planning our pages. Doing thumbnails to be sure what shapes will go onto your pages. How to use both Aquarelle and Watercolours, all while standing on location.
We found a beautiful avenue of trees in Treasury Gardens for our streetscape in 5 shapes. We were pretty well ready to take the rest of the day off after a big day and met again same time same place, next morning..
We completed our sketches with a few tricks and techniques then off to the famous Block Arcade where everyone was to sketch one of the shopfronts. Actually found enough tables at one of the cafes - St Germaine Creperie- where we all sat and worked happily while ordering drinks and nibbles.
We certainly attract attention and the GM of the Block Arcade discovered us and took several pics. We’re always happy to chat to people about what we adore doing.
So there ended a very enjoyable 3 days and I do thank everyone for coming and trying out new ways to be creative. Thank you too to Jeanette for quietly helping at any moment. Another next year?
