What better way to spend the last Sketch Holiday of the year at the beautiful relaxed Daku Resort Fiji. Four tours over the years and one of our favourites. We laughed and sketched, talked and snorkelled, drank and dined, shopped and joined in with the locals. So proud of everyone who were willing to get loose and throw a bit of paint around. Nothing can wrong remember. We’ll do it again in 2021.

Once you’ve been coming for a few years you are invited to all sorts of dinners, aperos, and summer parties. Even 10.00AM coffee and Rose at the markets every week. You are never alone. Unless you choose to be. Walk out your door and you’ll be invited to something.
Read MoreEvery Tuesday from early till midday the Olonzac markets take over several streets. About 15mins drive from our village. These are considered some of the best around, although every village has a market once a week. Very small villages have vans that arrive in the mornings, play very loud old time music over a speaker to alert you to them being there. You could be in a broom cupboard and you’d hear them.

As a follow on we now have ‘next Steps’ Workshops for those who’d like to progress.
In this workshop we addressed the query we often get - how do we paint/sketch reflections. Kathy lead the students through a sea demonstation followed by a greenery scene. Suddenly it seems easier to know where to put lights and darks….

I have to say I’m very guilty of collecting all that too when I travel and when I get home, it’s filed away somewhere neatly, waiting for the ‘just in case’ moment. Still waiting!
Read MoreOne of our group had been in touch with me for a year or so saying nobody taught Travel Sketching in Adelaide and how could she learn. A definite cry for help.
Another student, Lyn B who joins us in France and Australia was very instrumental in encouraging a lovely group to join in. Others found the Workshop online.
Everyone had planned how they’d get to the Workshop, (even on crutches) where they’d stay and enjoy spending two glorious days immersing themselves in sketching.
What a great group we had today. One dear student who has been with me over the years flew from New Zealand to do both this Workshop and Alissa’s on Saturday, the day before. Another flew from Sydney to do both. Another came from faraway and stayed 2 nights. It seems everyone worked hard to get to be with me here in the heart of Melbourne.

The marvellous James Richards has sent me some of his Cuba images and links for you to study and learn a little from. Like us he uses pure colour, plenty of whites and plenty of darks.
Take a look at the link below and immerse yourself in his journeys and thoughts about Cuba.
Read MoreI think of life sketching as a landscape. When you start to see those hills of Tuscany or French Alps as undulating lines you’ll begin to feel the form that you’re seeing on the model. That will show in your landscape sketches.
