Morocco is a truly unique country, where you can step back in time to experience centuries old culture, that is a mix of Berber, Arabic, Andalusian, Mediterranean, French, Moorish and African. These influences are seen in everything from the architecture to the food, the culture and the Moroccan people.
I will help you to capture your memories through quick, simple, vibrant travel sketches. We will capture the feeling and essence of Morocco that a photograph can’t always do. Your sketches (like your memories) will be unique to you.
We will sketch every day, and I can guide you in the creation of your sketch as much or as little as you want. Sketching gives us the opportunity to stop and smell the roses, to be creative and observant, while we put together a vibrant little drawing of Moroccan daily life. All level of sketchers are welcome on this trip - from complete novices, to experienced sketchers.
But it’s not all about sketching! There is plenty of free time in every day as well, to explore, rest and experience the local area on your own, or with the new friends that you will make on this trip. We always like to meet up at the end of the day, to swap stories and enjoy a delicious meal together, to live like a local even if it’s just for a day.
Come join me on this creative, sketching tour of Morocco.
You will capture memories to last a lifetime.

Here’s a guide to our Itinerary -
Of course occasionally we may need to change things, but we’ll follow this as closely as possible.
Day 1: April 10. 2027, Arrival Marrakech
Arrive into Casablanca international airport early afternoon, where you’ll be met by our local driver for transfer to the hotel. This evening, we meet our fellow sketchers for a tour briefing with Tricia, before a special dinner tonight at the famous Rick’s Café. “Here’s looking at you, Kid!” (B’fast, Dinner). Overnight Casablanca
•
Day 2: April 11. 2027, Rabat
We set off this morning for Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, often overlooked on many tourist itineraries. There are many sketching opportunities here and we’ll visit some of the city’s key attractions including the kasbah, with its peaceful Andalusian garden, the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
This evening, we’ll have dinner on an old sailing ship moored along the Bou Regreg river.
B’fast. Overnight Rabat
•
Day 3: April 12. 2027, Chefchaouen
From Rabat, we drive north to the small coastal town of Asilah, where we’ll have lunch and explore the pretty medina within the old Portuguese ramparts. Later this afternoon, we’ll head into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, ‘the Blue Pearl’, famous for its blue-painted buildings. It’s a small, friendly town, easy to explore: the perfect place to wander the pretty streets of the medina. Our biggest problem here will be deciding what NOT to sketch!
B’fast. Overnight Chefchaouen
•
Day 4: April 13. 2027, Chefchaouen
We will spend today in Chefchaouen medina, sketching this morning, with free time in the afternoon to relax, explore and shop.
B’fast. Overnight Chefchaouen
•
Day 5: April 14. 2027, Fes
We say goodbye to Chefchaouen this morning to drive to the exotic city of Fes where we’ll stay in a beautiful riad on the edge of the medina - our home for the next three nights.
B’fast. Overnight Fes
•
Day 6: April 15. 2027, Fes
Fes is synonymous with ceramics and leather, so we start the day with a visit to a ceramics workshop and the famous Chouara tanneries, which are quite a sight (and smell!). Then a guided walking tour of the medina, with its labyrinth of lanes and alleyways, a secret tea shop, stunning architecture and, of course, the souks. The afternoon is free to sketch or relax.
B’fast. Overnight Fes
•
Day 7: April 16. 2027, Fes
This morning, we will walk the short distance to the famous ‘Blue Gate’ (blue on one side, green on the other). We’ll find a quiet café where we can sip on mint tea while we sketch. Later today there is free time to do a cooking class or have a traditional Moroccan spa (hamman). Optional activities are at extra cost.
B’fast. Overnight Fes
•
Day 8: April 17. 2027, Midelt
And now it’s south towards the Sahara! Our first stop is a delicious goat’s cheese tasting at Tarik’s organic farm, followed by tea with the Berber owner of a traditional cave house in the village of Imouzzer Kandar. We’ll pass through the town of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco’ before reaching Midelt, the centre of Morocco’s apple growing district.
B’fast. Overnight Midelt
•
Day 9: April 18. 2027. Merzouga and Sahara
Our drive this morning brings us to the town of Erfoud and then to Rissani, well-known for its authentic spice market. Today is market day and the chance to experience an authentic local market in full swing, with fresh produce, spices and even a few sheep and goats for sale. After seeing a short musical performance by some local Gnaoua musicians in the desert village of Khamlia, we’ll meet our camels on the edge of the dunes for the transfer to the desert camp. Or, if you prefer, you can go in a 4x4. And, in case you’re wondering, the desert camp tents have aircon/heating overnight and en suite bathrooms. Tonight, after dinner, enjoy a performance of African drumming around the campfire.
B’fast, Dinner. Overnight Luxury Sahara Camp
•
Day 10: April 19. 2027, Dades Gorge
The early risers this morning can watch the sunrise over the vast expanse of Erg Chebbi, the ‘Sea of Dunes’. Then it’s back to Merzouga by 4x4, to meet our transport for the drive along the ‘Road of a Thousand Kasbahs’ to the town of Boumalne Dades at the southern end of Dades Gorge. From Boumalne Dades, we’ll make our way along the gorge, with spectacular views at every turn. Our hotel for the next two nights is in the gorge, with views across the local village gardens. (B, D)
B’fast, Dinner. Overnight Dades Gorge
•
Day 11: April 20. 2027, Dades Gorge
A relaxed day in Dades Gorge, beginning with a short, gentle walk through the community gardens. Our local guide will explain how the villagers cultivate the fertile land next to the Dades River. There will be free time this afternoon for sketching or relaxing at the hotel. Or you might like to have a hamman at a local hotel (subject to availability and at extra cost).
B’fast. Dinner. Overnight Dades Gorge
•
Day 12: April 21. 2027, Ouarzazate
Our destination this morning is the oasis of Skoura, a 25 sq km palm grove, with the snow- capped peaks of the High Atlas in the background. We’ll join local Berber women here to make their traditional bread which we’ll enjoy with a delicious light lunch of local produce. Later this afternoon, we continue to Ouarzazate, less than an hour’s drive from Skoura. (B, L) o/n Ouarzazate
B’fast. Lunch. Overnight Ouarzazate
•
Day 13: April 22. 2027, Marrakech
Ait Benhaddou is an 11th century ksar (fortified village), UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for many famous movies, including Gladiator and Games of Thrones, located just half an hour from Ouarzazate. We’ll visit it this morning before our scenic drive to the ‘red city’ of Marrakech. The vibrancy of Marrakech cannot be found anywhere else in the world! We will explore, sketch and soak in the atmosphere. In the early evening, there is an option to do a walking food tour with a Marrakechi local, sampling a range of Moroccan specialities (at extra cost). It’s a fun and informative evening that will tantalise your taste buds and awaken your senses and a great introduction to the main square, Jemaa el Fnaa, with snake charmers, entertainers and musicians - it truly comes alive after dusk.
B’fast. Overnight Marrakech
•
Day 14: April 23 2027, Marrakech
If you would like to visit Le Jardin Majorelle, a beautiful garden in the Ville Nouvelle that was bought and restored by Yves Saint Laurent, today is the day! Visit at extra cost. The rest of the day is free to explore the medina of Marrakech, have a traditional Moroccan hamman, go shopping or admire the incredible colours of the Marrakech medina. Tonight we will have a farewell dinner, celebrating our wonderful trip through Morocco together.
B’fast. Dinner. Overnight Marrakech
•
Day 15: April 24. 2027. Departure
All good things must come to an end and today is departure day. Marrakech airport is a short twenty minute taxi ride from the medina, or, if you’re flying out of Casablanca, we can arrange a transfer for you to the airport at extra cost. Allow three hours for the drive to Casablanca. In either case, the recommended time in Morocco before an international flight is three hours. Or, you might decide to spend an extra couple of days exploring Marrakech or perhaps visit the coastal city of Essaouira. Extra days are at your own expense but we are happy to arrange those for you. Safe onward travels!
