Music…Fabulous work this week. Everyone found something they were happy to sketch, the drum, pan flute, the guitar, music stand and cornet. Mixing media is what we’re doing lots of. So there was paint, charcoal, water brushes, ink and bamboo pens. We love what you’ve done with lovely old music sheets as paper and the sketches in your books. So much character and so much expression in your line and use of colour. And now we know who the musicians are amongst us…
Sketching at the pub, now there’s an idea. Lots to choose from at the Steyne Hotel, a fabulous courtyard, signage and views from the bar across to The Rope & Anchor Café. Something for everyone. Somewhere among all the sketching seemed to be muffins with salted caramel you could inject into them. Oooh, didn’t hurt a bit!
A nautical theme this week for New Sketchers. We talked about composition, colour, foreground & background. A yacht, a lighthouse, some shells and a funny flying fish. A quick sketch and a layering of a few colours. AND we were able to use our water brushes. Wow, just a dash for highlights, not too much or it turns to mud. Off to Manly Cove and then sketching the view from the Bavarian. Tucked up nice and warm, coffee, hot chips and gluhwein, and those marvellous views across to Manly Pavilion. Can life get much better?
In our Wednesday class we welcomed Lin who did a catchup class with Jenny. Wow, does Lin learn fast. Wonderful to see the excitement on Lin’s face at the end of the lesson and a big thank you to Jenny for stepping up to help. Our best regards for a speedy recovery to our New Sketcher, Margaret. We hope to see you in class again soon.
And next week its all about water colour, remember to prepare your paints by taking off those pesky little wrappers. We are ready to roll…
EHS Melbourne began first steps in watercolours. Starting with rock shapes, to try colour and leaving whites, then trees on location. Cafe sketching to complete the day produced gorgeous flower sketches. A very impressive group Jeanette.
EHS Auckland were back together and trees were one of the subjects of the day. great that you have Morton Bay Figs there too Tony. Welcome to my long time business partner Pete, who is in tutor training with Tony.
EHS France. Our first ‘Taste of Sketching’ Workshop attracted a big group of English speaking people who live here in the South West of France. We look forward to having many more students enjoy learning to sketch as we grow our classes.
