It may be round your neighborhood or round the world. Do check our Sketch Holidays and find one to suit. Your life will never be the same again!
I’ve seen your delightful sketches this week, and constantly surprise myself how much personality you all get into those loose lines you create. I shouldn’t be surprised at all of course as that’s what we tutors are drumming into you. Observe and get it down fast. Treat the colour the same way.
The tutors are loving your EDM sketches too. Sounds like a little competition going on! But what is so terrific is that you’re sketching your own idea of each day’s subject. And we all enjoy the humour.
For everyone this week the challenges were as always, to push you out a little more. In watercolours you’re learning how much water to add. Where to put the paint. Where not to put the paint. How to get the colours you want. It will happen. Just play.
For other classes we did a rather different version of the ‘self portrait’. I remember years ago seeing a work by NZ painter Frances Hodgekins. As students they’d been asked to do a self portrait. Instead of looking in the mirror, as the other students had, she emptied her handbag and painted what was in it. Brilliant. It said so much about her and more.
We definitely learned more about some of our students when we were out on location looking into shop windows. Trying on hats one students said “Oh I forgot we were here to sketch”
Same for you this week. Maybe you learned a little more about each other too.
So let’s take a look.
