Welcome to week 4 of Erin Hill Travel Sketching Classes.
Tuesday Manly General
As one of our sketchers said, “Harry Hartog is the most wonderful creative oasis…”. Surrounded by books, music, coffee and welcoming staff, how could we not have a great time?
Well done everyone, you really let your animal instincts run wild.
Wednesday The Rocks General
This weeks theme was animals. But my renegade class rebelled and choose people instead. They wanted to go deeper with learning about people. Shapes, movement, line of action, filling in a stick figure, the tilt of the head etc. We ended up with each student working on their own interests. Some played with dropping in the colour. Some capturing the local animals (dogs, pigeons and seagulls), and the others playing around with human sketching, from detailed to very simple impressions. Was a fun class!
Thursday Blue Mountains General
We headed into the bush this week and worked on waterfalls. Trying to not overwork it. Looking at the shapes the water makes as it falls. Then off to a great cafe in Leura for almond lattes and gluten free brownies… cause thats how we roll up here….
Thursday Manly General
Funny how even those of us who are not real ‘animal people’ have a new appreciation for how fun they can be to sketch. Lots of sea creatures, birds and even a horse. We can sketch anything now!
A big thank you to the Harry Hartog staff for making us feel so welcome and for inspiring our creativity.
Thursday Evening Manly General
A treasure trove of animal inspiration for our group tonight. So many quirky, delicate , meditative sketches. Lovely class!
Friday Manly General
We discovered singing and sketching go really well together during several impromptu sing a longs to Harty Hartog’s great eclectic soundtrack.
Excellent repartee, plenty of loose sketching and not much else, for the full 3 hours, resulted in a huge swag of fabulous animal art.
So happy with the results!
Friday Manly New Sketchers
A fabulously warm day to be out sketching in Manly Cove. Lovely to see so much confidence in choosing a pleasing composition and layering colours. Great work everyone, we can see your own sketch style emerging!
Friday The Rocks New Sketchers
We spent a busy morning learning the techniques of watercolour sketching. We made colour swatches and became more familiar with the paints.
After taking a quick break for delicious scones and fragrant teas and coffee, we continued to sketch. Chinagraph pencil was applied and we watched the colours mingle together and dance on the page. Each set of rocks developed its own personality.
Next a quick sketch, the coffee cup, apple and banana.
We then ventured down to the quay which was a hive of activity. We found a seat and spent some quality time sketching trees.
Looking forward to next week
Saturday Manly General
Saturday Manly New Sketchers
We experimented with our water colours… our rocks and ‘ banana, apple, cup with vigour before using watercolour on our left handed tree sketches. It was then off to Ivanhoe Park for individual views and down to the sketch bar to complete our watercolours. Phew .
