We seamlessly moved across France and into Italy ready to begin our Tuscany sketch holiday arriving in Pisa late afternoon. Here we would catch up with everybody who’d be part of our exciting coming week. Dinner that night is our first chance to get together and talk about what’s ahead.
Next morning all of us, new sketchers and experienced, wander over to the Leaning Tower for our warmup sketch of the day. By afternoon we have travelled to Barga and settled into our former chestnut farm home, had our first sketch, stretched out by the pool and bonded over aperitifs before our Italian cook presented her amazing dishes at dinner.
Our week starts in the Studio over the barn each day with sketch techniques and exercises which will carry you through the subjects you’d most likely run into.
Some days we can be seen sketching be in a local walled village whether tiny or very large – usually with a good coffee first – always with a fascinating history and sketch locations to die for. We cover all sorts of locations, dining in great local restaurants or at home and learning recipes, meeting the mamas chatting on their doorsteps, climbing to the top of hillside villages. Loving the countryside and the characters who live there.
Other days are at home and sketching everything around the enormous hillside property and seriously discussing how to sketch the fireflies at night! Apparently it’s easier after some delicious local wines.
Within a day or two all sketchers are working at the same level and always in their own individual style. We love seeing how we all see so differently and sharing our ideas and discoveries freely.
Enjoy our story in sketches, and thanks to all those who’ve contributed some fab pics.
