My first Sketch Club meet up. I’ve been very keen to sketch with others since my last painting trip. Found this gorgeous group of like-minded souls on Google, right here in my own backyard – sort of. Actually discovered I could join a group in Paris or San Francisco or anywhere, through the Meetup website.
Anyway, we met at Tamarama Beach and drew as many of the 117 sculptures as possible, placed between here and Bondi Beach, before lunch, and a few more after that. Jen took this pic while I put some colour on the wood horse Sculpture. Thanks Jen.
I have to say the works are fantastic – some different, some strange and some thought provoking. But I also noticed that the viewers are quite fascinating too, putting themselves in all sorts of positions with the sculptures, to be captured ( or deleted ) forever in their digital lives.
We thoroughly enjoyed our few hours in the sun, glare, noise and crowds, and If you ever felt shy about drawing/ sketching in public then this was not the place for you. But having likeminded friends makes one brave.
This is a few of the 7 I completed. Hope you get the feeling of one of Sydney’s famous surfing beaches.
