ABOUT THE TOUR
Starting in Paris, one of the world’s most romantic cities then on to the historic south, Longuedoc, my world for the past 17 years. I’d love you join me on my fully guided tour, a fascinating combination of sketching, culture, art, food & wine, history and mindfulness tour.
Paris is justifiably everybody’s dream sketch location, I can’t wait for you to see it as a sketcher.
All levels of sketching welcome, as on all my tours. The priority will be using the special Erin Hill Sketching techniques to more quickly than you can believe, produce work to a standard you did not think possible. That is my pledge.
I work with each student daily and as we move through historic locations to have you progressing confidently on your own sketching journey. A relaxed but mindful journey extending your own artistic abilities against the daily vista of some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe.
Non sketching friends and partners are very welcome. Our knowledgable tour valet Milton leads side tours to intriguing little-known Paris locations, giving non-sketchers their own unique Paris experience.
As the tour progresses we move on down to the picturesque premiere wine-growing region of Languedoc in South of France. There we have the charming and historic 300yr old Hotel d’Albert as our home for 7 nights.
Tranquil gardens, private swimming pool to soak up the French life-style. Sketching C11th crusader abbeys and Cathar castles of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code. Understanding why lunch is the most important meal of the day for the French in the south, and the custom of aperitifs meeting with your sketching friends in the late afternoon under the azure sky of the forgotten Aude.
We’ll sketch locally in our village and other days we’ll go further afield to the ruined Cathar castles, forts and hilltop villages where history was made by crusaders, where kings were held for ransom and the tradition of the wandering romantic troubadours began. The history in the Occitaine Languedoc is incredibly interesting and worth recording in your sketches.
We will have a Sketch&Wine day trip with Vin en Vacances, one of the most respected wine discovery tours in France. Guided by my friend Wendy you will get to try some of the best wines made by the domaines in southern France and gain new insights into the ancient business of wine making.
Also included will be a day with some other friends of mine, Heather and David at their ‘Cooking by the Canal du Midi’ school where they will help you prepare your favourite French dish the classic French way, then enjoy it in the shade of plane trees lining the banks of the Midi canal.
