Take a very large Arches Aquarelle 300gsm block (20 removable sheets bonded) tape the edges and paint every which way with gesso. Leave it till the next day. Apply thin watered down acrylic, any colour with a big brush. Let dry before another colour is applied and same for another colour if you want more. I used blue, yellow red. Took a day and night.
I think I’m quite brave showing this you know. I have absolutely no idea what I will end up with! All I do know is that I’m doing a familiar beach scene and making it more decorative than real.
Anyway, over the drawing I brushed quickly, a layer of lavender thin acrylic. Then with my little old Greek sponge, mopped off the parts I will want pale. Let dry thoroughly.
Next, same with red, and sponge away the light areas. That’s as far as i’ve got so far, but I already think it’s going in the right direction. You can see the lovely texture of the gesso base, and the colours going over that. Yummy. You can add any number of colours in this way that you wish.
I will leave you hanging….. if you’re not already asleep. This is the building block stage. We need patience.
All the thinned down Acrylic has been the same dilution up to here. We are about to begin the glazing where the colours will be mixed with Glazing medium and a nice lustre will appear. We actually start painting now.
I will not let you down. Promise.
