There are several paintings I’ve done for card ranges in the Bondi area. These first two are larger than the size I tend to paint now, but they certainly capture the vast spread of beach and water that is Bondi. The Bondi that is so iconic of Sydney.
I was keen to paint the other beaches along the same coast, and in the show will be one for Tamarama Beach. It is a perfect picnic spot with its sheltered grassed area wedged way below the bend in the coast road above. The sea looks fantastic from above with it’s layers of waves rolling in against the huge cliffs and onto the beach. I adore the rustic beachside cafe down there too. Not many spots worldwide where you can sip your late so close to the waves.
Bronte Beach is also on this coast line. Quite different in it’s character with it’s salt water rock pool at one side.
With Rose Bay, I wanted to try to show the hillside behind with the well-known school sitting up high above the bay. I like the wharf in the foreground where many boats of all kinds are moored. It’s a nice way to lead into a work.
Sydney is certainly a beach city. i could spend months painting full time if I was ever to do them all. They’d make a fabulous collection. Now there’s an idea!
